How soon after injury can treatment commence?
For approximately 48 hours after injury there is bleeding and inflammation around the site of the injury. Deep tissue work during this period can aggravate the injury and could cause further damage. After this initial rest period treatment can begin.
How long before I can start training again? Some injuries can be healed after only one treatment whereas others may take several weeks. At the first session I will be able to give some indication as to recovery time, bearing in mind that people have different recovery rates.
I don't understand how I became injured, I wasn't doing anything different? Many muscular injuries develop over time. They start as small tears in the muscle fibres but these are so small that no pain is felt. Over time these micro tears enlarge and eventually reach the point where pain is felt and injury can be quite severe. A regular sports massage can find these micro traumas even before they become painful. At this stage they are usually very easy to treat.
I work at a computer terminal all day and have neck and shoulder pain, can you help? Yes! It doesn't matter how you get your muscle injury, be it from running a marathon, gardening or working at a computer. Many of my clients do not take an active part in sports.
